Expressive Arts
Music and drama is taught collaboratively through Expressive Arts in the Thrive Pathway. Expressive Arts develops a student’s self-esteem, confidence and supports wider learning in essential areas such as communication and social interaction. It encourages pupils to think and act creatively. The teaching of Expressive Arts encourages active involvement in different forms of music and drama making, both individual and communal, developing a sense of group identity and togetherness. Pupils are encouraged to take responsible roles and make choices – to participate in and guide their own learning.
Thrive Pathway: Students have 1 session of Expressive Arts per week, exploring a range of music and drama conventions through termly themes. As students are working on the Engagement Model or the Progression steps, early music and drama explores cause and effect, anticipation and communication. Students work towards Arts Award Discover accreditation at the end of KS4.
