Functional English

Functional English

Functional English is taught across the curriculum areas within Preparation for Adulthood. Curriculum areas build a plethora of opportunities for students to develop their confidence and independence within English.

English skills may include signing, and the use of appropriate social skills within the community.

Students develop relationships with familiar and unfamiliar people, showing increased confidence when responding in varied situations.

They also become familiar with visual/ written instructions linked to independence tasks, for example when washing up or making toast. Students are challenged to work to the best of their ability and will develop their language/ use of  symbols/switches/key words to express themselves effectively.
