What is the Duke of Edinburgh Award?
The DofE is an Award open to all 14-24 yr olds. There are three progressive levels which, when successfully completed, leads to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. (The Gold Award is traditionally presented at Buckingham Palace!) The Bronze Award typically takes between 8-12 months to complete.

There are four sections to complete at Bronze and Silver level and five at Gold. With assistance from DofE Leaders, your child will select and set objectives in each of the following 4 areas: physical, skills, volunteering and expedition. The Gold Award requires a residential placement away from home.

Any young person can do their DofE – regardless of ability, gender, background or location. Achieving an Award isn’t a competition or about being first. It’s all about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries. Awards can be life-changing experiences; developing friendships, giving opportunities to discover new interests and talents and a tool to develop essential skills for life and work.

Through a DofE programme young people have fun, make friends, improve their self-esteem and build confidence. They gain essential skills and attributes for work and life such as resilience, problem-solving, team-working, communication and drive, enhancing CVs and further education/job applications. Duke of Edinburgh Awards are a recognised mark of achievement; respected by employers.
