To support the attainment of these pupils and aid their progression into the secondary curriculum, at Elms Bank we foster an ethos whereby students learning is supported with small class sizes and the support of a class teacher, teaching assistant and pastoral team. In addition we have access to structured intervention sessions that work on areas of development; these include reading and maths. For some of our pupils with a higher level of need this is translated as pre-reading/communication skills and early cognition skills. At Elms Bank we believe that ensuring effective higher staff ratios, bespoke curriculum plans, intervention plans and a structured pastoral care team we are able to support the development of the whole child.
